    Short Description
    Cellulose synthase family protein
    Curator Summary
Encodes a cellulose synthase isomer. CESA3 mutants have cellulose defect in the primary cell wall. Multiple lines of evidence suggest that CESA3, along with CESA1 and CESA6 are present in the same plasma membrane complex for cellulose biosynthesis. As inferred from the null role of secondary wall-type CesAs, included in a set of five primary wall-type CesAs that may support trichome cell wall thickening.
    Computational Description
CONSTITUTIVE EXPRESSION OF VSP 1 (CEV1); FUNCTIONS IN: cellulose synthase activity, transferase activity, transferring glycosyl groups; INVOLVED IN: primary cell wall biogenesis, cellulose biosynthetic process, defense response; LOCATED IN: Golgi apparatus, plasma membrane; EXPRESSED IN: 27 plant structures; EXPRESSED DURING: 14 growth stages; CONTAINS InterPro DOMAIN/s: Cellulose synthase (InterPro:IPR005150), Zinc finger, RING-type (InterPro:IPR001841); BEST Arabidopsis thaliana protein match is: cellulose synthase 1 (TAIR:AT4G32410.1); Has 1807 Blast hits to 1807 proteins in 277 species: Archae - 0; Bacteria - 0; Metazoa - 736; Fungi - 347; Plants - 385; Viruses - 0; Other Eukaryotes - 339 (source: NCBI BLink).
