About this service

RIKEN Arabidopsis Genome Encyclopedia, commonly known as RARGE, is a Web database that provides basic information about the Arabidopsis genome, such as information related to cDNA sequences and transposon insertion mutants.

RARGE was developed in 2002 to enhance the utility of the Arabidopsis resource (full-length cDNAs, Ds transposon insertion mutant lines and microarray experiments) constructed by the Plant Functional Genomics Research Group, Genomic Sciences Center, RIKEN. Many studies that used the RIKEN resource have been published; thus, RARGE has achieved its objective thus far.

Arabidopsis is a typical model plant that has been studied by many researchers; however, the function of all of its genes are still not clear. A novel database is required to enable users to obtain new findings from exhaustive analysis techniques such as high-throughput sequencing and phenotyping. Using this database, we aim to effectively identify the function of each gene of Arabidopsis. This system has useful search functions, and it is possible to identify the related genes in addition to the features of a broad range of traits.

In 2013, we organized information from multiple mutant databases and rebuilt RARGE as a database for strongly linking genes and traits.
